Government Strategies Group recently helped Kansas-based Sunflower Development Group secure $3.2 million in state historic tax credits and worked with Cincinnati City Council to establish a 12-year property tax abatement for the project.
The $55 million redevelopment project will transform the historic Cincinnati Club into a 150-room hotel. The original plans called for restoring it into an apartment building, but Sunflower pivoted after determining that a hotel would be a better fit alongside the existing McHale Events & Catering operation.
The result will preserve the Cincinnati Club’s historic character while creating a new Series by Marriott boutique lifestyle hotel which allows the property to continue hosting weddings, events, and other special occasions.
This is another great example of how historic preservation, thoughtful adaptive reuse, and strategic public-private partnerships can help bring new life to iconic properties while strengthening downtown Cincinnati.
